The Women of the Well - the name is compelling. A well is the centerpiece of the village. It belongs to the whole community. All share equally in it. Water is essential to life. When it is scarce, human life and the community are threatened.
Recently this group of small programs began sharing their stories and wisdom. They found each has a similar story about the common rivers flowing through the lives of those they serve: limited access to resources and services, unjust and uncaring systems, a sense of powerlessness and hopelessness which comes from high frustration and stress. They realized that by working together in new ways and by drawing more people to the well, the living waters of justice flow more abundantly. In partnership with the Incarnate Word Foundation of St. Louis, Missouri and Mary's Pence, a Catholic grassroots grantmaker, The Women of the Well was established in November 2003. The Incarnate Word Foundation is underwriting the expenses of this new venture. So, 100% of donations will go directly to programs!
Throughout this web site you will meet your neighbors, The Women of the Well. Draw water from this well joyfully - and become a conduit of hope and justice! Will you come with us to the well? |

The Women of the Well is a group of small programs led by Catholic sisters and lay women who are implementing some of the most innovative and creative solutions to the challenges in your community. Historically, these women have always done so. Today they are still dedicated to your community by doing the work of the Gospel, seeking justice and performing works of mercy.
The Women of the Well are working collectively to strengthen our community. They plan to raise resources for their programs which will conserve staff time, reduce duplication and save financial and environmental resources. They will continue to create new solutions including a new group call Companions of the Well. The purpose of this group is to gather people on a regular basis for faith reflection, and to engage more deeply in the work of Catholic women by lending time and treasure.
